Salisbury’s Eureka Tavern is offering every bearded person a free pint of Carlton Draught.
The promotion is part of the Park Tce pub’s World Beard Day celebrations — inspired by manager Daniel Huntley’s beloved beard.
The pub will also hold a competition to win a free beer every week for a year.
Eureka Tavern assistant manager Chris Hui said people without beards should start growing their whiskers now, although “the bigger the beard, the better”.
“I reckon men with beards would drink a disproportionate amount of beer,” Mr Hui said.
For women, Mr Hui said it was a chance “to look at lots of blokes with beards”, although if they had facial hair themselves they were also eligible for a free beer.
“But they don’t normally brag about it,” he said.
Bearded barman Dean O’Mahony is looking forward to the event.
“I just forgot to shave one day and it’s been like this ever since,” Mr O’Mahony said.
“It get comments saying ‘nice beard’, which is always nice.”
The Eureka Tavern, at 10 Park Tce, Salisbury, is open from 11am-5am every day.
According to the World Beard Day website, the exact origins of the event are unknown.
“But there is some evidence to suggest that Danish Vikings had a special day dedicated to the glorification of beards as far back as 800AD,” the website says.
